Leesburg Lunch Ride
Wednesday 7 June 2006
|
|
For the second
year, we rode to Leesburg, VA, for our annual spring ride.
Twenty-six babes met at a picnic area in Leesburg for lunch. Joan
led a group of ten who rode the 80-mile
White's Ferry Circuit from Arlington through Potomac, MD, crossed the
river on the ferry, and back to Arlington on the W&OD. Kim led
a group of ten who rode out the W&OD from Vienna past Leesburg for a
total of 50 miles. Vicki F led a group of five who rode from Herndon for a total
of 30 miles. Beth drove to
Leesburg for lunch and brought bananas and candy for
everyone. Kim's husband (Rod) brought cold water, sodas, and
sandwiches from the Italian Store in Arlington. Great weather,
great company, great route!! Who could ask for more?
No mechanical
problems, but an accident seriously damaged Kelly's bike.
Fortunately, there were no significant injuries to the riders and Rod
was still nearby to act as SAG.
Wildlife
sightings: We didn't see the llamas this time, but we did see:
a deer run
across the road and bound over the fence right in front of us
a bright blue
bird the color of Miriam's bike (an
Indigo
bunting) and
significantly
more road kill than usual. |
