Dawn
rose over a cloudy landscape while final plans were being made for a
multi front attack on DC. Babe Sue and her documentation assistant,
Dennis, would be driving from the west, several Babes, Beth, Jann, Glen,
Joan, Gaye, Nickie, Nancy, Rod, Kim, Kathy, Peggy, Chris, Jennifer, Tom,
Alberta, and Jim would mount a frontal attack from Starbucks and to add
to the confusion, other Babes, Jim, Steve, Marion, Malcom, Lisa, Sherri,
and Chuck would “free fall” into the start zone.
The western mechanized formation arrived to find some confusion in the
area. Supply lines were still being established, and tables with
provisions and goodies were being set up. The mechanized troops
piled out of the attack vehicle,,, unhooked the two wheel attack
carriages, and proceeded to assemble banners and flags to announce the
arrival of the best thing to happen in DC this day. The Babes were
on the way!
An assault area was firmly established under a tree. As light
broke on the horizon, the strength of our forces could clearly be seen.
The banners of war were unfurled and the following Babes and Magnets
gathered. Jim, Jim, Steve, Alberta, Glen, Nickie, Gaye, Sue,
Nancy, Kim, Joan, Rod, Chris, Jann, Kathy, Jennifer H, Dennis, Peggy,
Beth, Lisa, Marian and Malcom. Tensions mounted as the force
awaited the departure hour.
The troops were assembled into an orderly group and photos were taken
before the battle. Members of the force arrived, checked in,
changed into the uniform of the day,,, then put on their helmets.
They valiantly prepared mentally and physically to face the dangers they
knew were ahead. Potholes, traffic, pedestrians, and other bikers
would truly try the skills of the Babes today.
With the two wheel mechanized forces prepared to charge, the Babes
assembled on the tarmac of battle. Right there on F street,
amongst the milling crowds, the Babes made their presence known.
The last of the cool breezes wafted through the crowd, bringing with it
the droning voices of politicians who were hell bent on making the full
force of 3500 riders itchy with anticipation.
At last, the droning voices were silenced and the battlefield cleared in
front of the Babes. Trusty steeds were mounted, and amidst the
glare of their smiles reflecting the morning sunlight, the Babe Force
advanced on the first objective - Roosevelt Bridge and the GW Parkway.
The first objective was achieved with no loss in forces. Although
one Babe got a little confused and rode that part of the route several
times - - we won’t mention Joan’s name here. She was probably
just checking to make sure there were no wounded or injured Babes on the
trail. No one would just do extra miles for the fun of it!
The second objective, AMU, was achieved, and the Babes Banner was placed
in the main driveway for all bikers to see.
The day wore on,,, pedal here,,, hill climb there,,,, ever onward toward
the objective. Streaks of lightning with red bandana’s attached
were noted to be in constant sight by other forces. Several
reports were made of Babes advancing rapidly on the hills of the
second leg.
Soon it was over (for some). Some reported they were pedaling in a
time warp,,, stating they had been out there for more than 10 hours,,,
but still finishing before 1PM. Some deviltry was certainly afoot.
After completing the objective, the Babes socialized, lunched and traded
war stories from the assault. No wounds were received,,, no
prisoners were taken. THE GLORIOUS AND VICTORIOUS BABES WILL RIDE
AGAIN!
RIDE ON,
Sue (This ride report was inspired due to Friday's ride to the Army Post.)
