Halloween 2003

Six little Babes, riding on their bikes,
Met in Arlington on Halloween night.
One Babe said, "There are witches in the air!"
The other Babes said, "But we don't care!
Anne B. looks great in her cape and hat.
The only thing missing is her black cat!"
Six little Babes, riding on their bikes,
Jenn turned left, the others turned right.

Five little Babes, riding on their bikes,
Rode through McLean, and then through the lights:
One Babe said, "It is time for me to go."
The other Babes said, "Oh no, Marla, No!"

Four little Babes, riding on their bikes,
Rode through Arlington and down through the lights:
Down Rosslyn hill and across from DC,
Met the other Babes near the bridge called Key.
Down by the river and 'cross 14th Street,
Past Jefferson and FDR's seat.
Through G'town Harbor then up the Crescent Trail,
Stopped in Bethesda for a snack and ginger ale.

Four little Babes, riding on their bikes,
Headed back home at the end of their hike.
Nancy rode ahead, and Anne flew away,
Her black cape a-flutter at the end of the day.
Her stuffed dog, Toto, bid us adieu,
Anne turned up Chain Bridge Road,
And then there were two.

Sandy and Robin on the C&O Canal,
Bumpety, bumpety, bumpety, OW!
Across Chain Bridge where Nancy was waiting,
Up the steep hill we'd been anticipating.
Three little Babes, finished after all.
We sat straight in our seats and held our heads tall.
Six little Babes on All Hallow's Eve,
Set out on a ride that few could believe.

OK, it isn't great poetry but we had a great ride. We did the Seven Sisters route (see cue sheets) and the weather could not have been nicer! Anne B. was the showstopper in her witch costume (with a green face), garnering many waves and friendly toots from passing vehicles. Along with a witch's hat covering her helmet, she even had a stuffed Toto dog in a basket! There were few tricks (a tree blocking the trail in Arlington) and a real treat (seeing Althea's group at Key Bridge).
