(Sort of) Friday 9/28 Trip Report

(to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic)

Robin H.

We rode down through North Springfield on a crisp but gentle breeze.
The hills around Lake Barcroft helped melt the gooseflesh on our knees.
Poor Peggy had to stand to ride when her shifter cable snapped,
The Babes go riding on!

Glory, glory hallelujah!
Babes are definitely cooler!
We ride and climb and coast and grind, but always have a good time,
The Babes go riding on!

Lake Accotink was placid as we rode down to the shore;
Mantua was cool and wooded as we crossed and rode some more.
But somewhere down near Fairfax our valiant group got split,
The Babes go riding on!

The moral of this story is to bring cue sheets along,
You won't get lost if you have crossed a side street that is wrong,
Or if you turned and slowly learned you'd gone the opposite way,
The Babes go riding on!

So, ride on Marla, Terry, Joan, Peggy and Nancy F.!
Keep up the pace (but do not race), Cathy R. and Beth,
And lastly as the "Wedgie", Robin pulls up the rear,
The Babes go riding on!

A Hill-climbing Poem
Robin H.

Joan asked me to print my "hill-climbing" poem, which Nancy claims was born from oxygen deprivation on the Arlington hill ride .....

My name is Robin and I'm in pain
From climbing hills off Military Lane.
I bought a new seat for my sore fanny.
Do they make another gear below a granny?!

Inspired by Robin's Poem
Beth

There once was a gal name Robin
Up the hills she went up sobbin'
Perhaps her rear
Needed a GREAT-granny gear
Then up the hills she'd go bobbin'

The Maven
Gaye

Gaye wrote this poem in honor of Beth for starting Babes on Bikes and for serving as its leader for the club's 1st 5 years.

Halloween 2003
Robin

Robin was inspired to write this poem when Anne showed up for the ride as a witch complete with hat, cape and Toto!  See pics here.
